Seaton End is in the old or ‘bottom’ village off the main road and at the bottom of the steep bank or hill. In the summer months look out for the ‘Captain Cook’ sign on the main road, indicating where you turn off the main road. This may not be there during the winter but the turning is just after (from the Whitby direction) the pedestrian traffic lights.
To find the cottage drive all the way down and along the High Street, past The Art Gallery, round the right hand corner, past Dotty’s tea Room and The Royal George pub and continuing all the way Past the Cod and Lobster Pub to the Staith, overlooking the harbour and beach. Once on the Staith, on which you will be able to park to unload, if you face back the way you came you will see the cottage (white walls and paint work, with a brown stained door) as the first cottage in the street proceeding up to the left. The Cod and Lobster pub is on the other side of the Road next to the Harbour.
The stairs are safe with a door at the bottom and a stair gate at the top. A travel cot, changing mat and high chair are available on request, please let us know when you book.
The Local Area
In the old village on the high street you can find the family Butchers, they are open most mornings where you can buy locally sourced meat, pies and groceries. There are also a couple gift shops and a confectionery shop for treats.
For everything else there is a Co-op at the top of the village on the main road. Turn in the direction of Hinderwell and you cannot miss the shop before you leave Staithes itself.
Life in Staithes is slower so take the chance to slow down and relax.
Try sitting on the bench in front of the cottage with a cup of tea in the sunshine watching the boats come and go.
The coast around Staithes is both visually stunning and is renowned for fossil hunting. Please make sure you return everything to its rightful place and please make sure you check the tide times before you set off; the Sea comes in quickly.
Visit the Lifeboat, Art Gallery, Cafes, Shops, Craft Fair, Museum….
Walking is an absolute must. There are plenty of routes nearby. The Cleveland way passes through the village and the beach at Runswick Bay is a three mile walk along the cliff tops. Sandsend (9 miles) is another beautiful village with a picture-postcard sandy beach.
Yes, there is a list in the cottage containing information regarding, Doctors, Dentists, etc.
